Staff and students at the University of Suffolk can connect their personal devices to Wi-Fi through eduroam.
eduroam is a free, international internet access service for the Higher Education and Research community.
We recommend using the Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT) to connect to eduroam. There are a few additional steps to begin with, but using the CAT ensures your device is configured securely using the University of Suffolk’s customised installer.
To use eduroam at the University of Suffolk, you need to read and agree to the University of Suffolk, JANET and eduroam acceptable use policy. By configuring your devices and signing in to eduroam, you signify your agreement to all of these policies.
You can find guides for using the CAT or to manually configure eduroam by selecting your device below.

This guide will show you how to connect to eduroam on Linux, using the eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool (CAT). We recommend the eduroam CAT as this uses a Python script to configure your device for eduroam and should work on most distributions of Linux. These instructions were created using Ubuntu MATE.
1. Open https://cat.eduroam.org in a web browser and choose Click here to download your eduroam installer.
2. Search for University of Suffolk in the list of institutions. Click University of Suffolk to open the installer download page.
3. Click on Download your eduroam installer (Linux).
4. Once downloaded, save the file.
5. Open Terminal and change directory to where you saved the installer file. You will then need to run the command:
python eduroam-linux-Uos-UOS_eduroam_WiFi.py
In the example below, I changed directory to Downloads and then ran the command. After typing the first few characters of ‘eduroam’ press Tab and this should auto-complete the file name. Press Enter to execute the file.
6. The installer will open. Press OK.
7. Select Yes to continue the installation.
8. Enter your University of Suffolk staff number followed by @uos.ac.uk (for example, e1234567@uos.ac.uk) and press OK.
9. Enter your University of Suffolk password. This is the same password you use for other University systems such as MySuffolk. Click OK.
10. Enter your password again and click OK.
11. You’ll receive confirmation that the installation was successful. Click OK.
That's it!
