Please note this guide only applies to personal devices. DO NOT attempt to perform these steps on a university provided Laptop or Computer. 

 

How to check if your device has encryption turn on

Click start and click settings

 

 

Click ‘Update & Security

 

 

Scroll down and click ‘Device encryption

 

 

Ensure that Device encryption is turned on

 

If you cannot see the options as described above, you can use BitLocker to encrypt your device as shown below

 

Click Start and click the document explorer button

 

 

Click ‘This PC’ on the right-hand side then right click your C: Drive

 

 

From there you can turn BitLocker on to enable encryption

You should now see a padlock icon on the drives that are encrypted.

 

 

Highlight and right-click on the drive you want to verify the "BitLocker Options". If you see the message Encryption on, your hard drive IS encrypted:

 

 

If your drive does not have the padlock icon, it is NOT encrypted. Right-click on the drive and select Turn on BitLocker and follow the on-screen instructions.
